Liens

A lien is a legal claim that may be filed against your claim stating that the lienholder has a right to some or all of the award payment.  The court approved the Amended Stipulation And Order Establishing Procedures For The Review Of Asserted Liens Against Settling Implant Claimants (Lien Order) to provide a process for the claimant and lienholder to try and reach a resolution of the lien.  If a lien has been placed on your claim, you will be notified in writing by the Settlement Facility and will be given an opportunity to contest or agree to the lien.  If requested, the Settlement Facility will issue a check only for the uncontested amount of the lien; the contested amount will be withheld until both parties reach an agreement in writing or there is a final decision from the Lien Judge or the court.
